Shobdon Playground Fund
It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying the new playground and there are so many people to thank for enabling and supporting the project. It's well over 2 years ago that Donna, Kylie and Lisa approached the Parish Council having got pretty much everyone in the village to sign a petition asking the Parish Council to consider improving the playground at Bar Meadow. Since then Kylie and Donna have not only led the fundraising of over £12,000 towards the project but have been tireless in keeping the momentum going and working on the project. The Food and Flying festival have been extremely generous with their support for this fundraising, particularly through the Rat Pack evenings which were sponsored by Corbett Farms, Tiger Helicopters, Discover Best Parks, Jaques International and Cobb Amos. Thanks also to the Julia Morris Trust for their very generous contribution to the fund. We must also thank all the organisations and groups who donated prizes for the different fundraising raffles and bingo nights, and the village shop for their help and support.
On the basis of this fundraising, the Parish Council was able to apply to the Herefordshire Leader Fund and is extremely grateful to them for providing a grant of £20,088 towards the project. Thanks must also be extended to the the Village Trust and KTH for their generous support of the project, as well as everyone who bought a brick! Finally, thanks to the Parish Council who have managed the project, coordinated all the work and provided over £13,000 of the funding for it. All the councillors have worked hard on the project, but particular thanks must go to the Chair of the Parish Council, Bill Stokes, for all the work he has put into getting the project realised.
At the end of 2016, a group of mums from Shobdon came up with the idea of getting a petition of local residents to ask that the playground by the village shop (Bar Meadow) be redeveloped. They also wanted to raise some money to help fund this. After knocking on lots of doors, they realised how much support there was for the idea, which was also one of the priorities noted in the Shobdon Parish Plan. They came to the Parish Council to ask for support and more ideas, as a result of which a small group of residents and parish councillors has come together to form the Playground Working Group. The working group is made up of Kylie Bowman, Donna Davies and members of the Parish Council.
Over the past 2 year, some fantastic fundraising has been organised, including bingo nights, the Shobdon stomp and tractor runs, not to mention two Rat Packs Evenings at the Food and Flying festival. Support has been amazing and thank you to everyone who has helped out and donated their time and/or money.
